Work-Life Trade-Off
In one of my best years as a seller, I was 140%+ to quota with over $13M in annual recurring revenue, and I still found time to take 8 weeks of paternity leave to welcome my second born son.
We have been sold the lie that we as salespeople have to choose between our lives and our work.
But, what if the balance between our work lives and home lives is more nuanced than that?
What if we show up better at work when things are taken care of at home?
What I found in that one great year is this:
- I had to use my 10 working months to lay the groundwork for 2 non-working months.
- I had to be away from my family far more than I wanted to be during those 1o months.
- This feat would’ve been impossible without a supportive manager and team.
- Taking my full paternity leave was absolutely worth it.
My take is simple — we can have it all if we work in the right place with the right people and keep our priorities in order.
Don’t let anyone tell you to choose between a successful home life and a successful work life.
You were made to have both.
